The present study analyzed individual differences in two-year-olds' behaviors relevant to shame and guilt, in relation to parental disciplines and their temperaments. 36 children were observed when th...ey happened to break an experimenters doll. I rated frequency of children's behaviors and latency of those, supposed that averting gaze and bodily avoidance are relevant to shame and that repairing and telling experimenter are relevant to guilt. Their parents were inquired what temperamental features their children have and how often they use each of 4 types of disciplines. At first, children's tendency to feel ashamed is likely to be independent of tendency to feel guilty, especially because both latencies and frequencies of behaviors relevant to shame are not positively correlated with those of behaviors relevant to guilt. Behaviors relevant to shame and guilt were little associated with ages and genders, but some associated with disciplines and temperaments. The results suggested that behaviors relevant to shame and guilt depend on what type of disciplines parents much use and also on which outside or within the family they do.続きを見る
