概要 |
This article reports on immaages of Japanese velar consonants [ŋ] and [g] in prevocaiic position in two dialect areas, the Kansai and the Kyushu, where these appear in free variation. (In standard Jap...anese, these are conditioned variants of the same phofneme.) 50 university students in each area were asked to evaluate these two sounds in terms of 16 items by the SD (semantic differential) method. It was revealed that although similar responces were generally obtained with regard both to region and to sex, Kyushu females regard [ŋ] as much more polite, correct, educated and feminine than [g]. This result seems to be an explanation of my observation in the Kyushu area that [ŋ] is used much more by female than by male and in formal situations than in informal ones.続きを見る
