The occurrence of the saturation in a threshold-type response was studied by means of digital simulation using model systems for enzymatic reactions. The threshold-response did not attain to a saturation level when it was assumed that only the concentration of a product influences the rates of formation and consumption of the substrate. However, the threshold-values and the slopes of the response curves were significantly influenced by the concentration of the product. Saturated thresholdresponses were observed with a model system including a mechanism that the rate of consumption of the substrate was controlled by the concentration of its precursor.
