Abstract This article deals with my survey in September and October 2006 on the microfinance initiatives at Semipalatinsk, Kazakhstan and Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Microfinance is a well-known method to tackle the... poverty and has been introduced in more than 60 countries all over the world. The two experiences to be discussed here are rather focused on women’s enterprising for their economic independency and their access to socially better positions, although still including the elimination of poverty.
