Abstract Japanese sound-symbolic words are one of the most difficult types of words for Japanese learners to learn. Are sound-symbolic words found in dictionaries, literature, and girls'comics the same? The so...und-symbolic words used in girls'comics have unique styles and functions, and they are different from those found in dictionaries or literature. In this study, research is done to examine the morphological and semantic features of sound-symbolic words in girls' comics and to determine what should be taken into consideration when girls'comics are used for learning and teaching Japanese sound-symbolic words.show more
