Abstract |
This paper focuses the word: "Seiyo-Gata" in wooden building for the Leaf Tobacco Monopoly Bureau designed by TSUMAKI Yorinaka and his associates. It has been interpreted as a typical representation o...f "Gi-yohfu" style, which means "Western-Imitation on appearance" in the Early Meiji Era. The study is aimed at clarifying the techniques and component details by comparing with some analogies and designs in carpentry books. ①’'Seiyo-Gata" style was an accumulation of some exterior parts such as double hung windows and clapboard wall. In the building for the Monopoly Bureau, wooden ornaments: bargeboard, finial or chamfer were used as a representation of status. ② The building style has been used as a format of standard design.
