Abstract |
This paper discusses about the trend of building use change in the old residential quarter of Melaka City - a World Heritage Site. In late 2008, a study was conducted to access the situation of use ch...ange, by recording existing ground and second floor primary building uses, and compared them with uses recorded 10 years ago. Finding shows that over the past 10 years, warehouses, service uses and vacant buildings have increased, whereas residential and retail uses decreased. Finding also indicates the appearance of a large number of retail and service uses related to tourism, such as souvenir shops, restaurants and cafes, which are concentrated on a few particular streets in, the study area.show more
