Abstract |
Ten typhoons landed in Japan in 2004. Three typhoons(Typhoons Chaba, Songda, and Meari) hit the Kyushu area. Residential houses, public facilities, and power transmission equipments suffered severe da...mage. More than 12,000 houses were damaged in Kumamoto Prefecture by Typhoon Songda. Saga Prefecture was distant from the passing course of Typhoon Tokage which didn't land in the Kyushu island: nevertheless, structural damage in the area associated with the typhoon was severest in Kyushu. It is known a katabatic wind in the area blows from northern mountains in winter. The strong winds may have blown with the north wind associated with Typhoon Tokage.show more
