Abstract The phase-changes in rapidly quenched powder specimens during annealing have been studied by X-ray diffraction. The powder specimens of Ti50Al45Mo5 prepared by the plasma-rotating-electrode-process we...re divided into three groups according to the particle size and shape. It was found that the as-prepared specimens consist of α : hcp (or α2: Ni3Sn-type) and \beta : bcc (or ordered in CsCl-type) phases and that the volume, fraction of α phase is larger in smaller particle specimen. After annealing at 700 or 900℃, the volume fraction of β-phase once decreases by a small amount, while that of α-phase once increases and then decreases. The decrease in the fraction ofα is due to formation of γ (CuAu-type)-phase. After annealing for 105s, the specimens have almost reached their thermoequlibrium state of (α (α2)+β+β+γ), irrespective of the sizes of the powder particles.show more
