The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of gender and child-care experience on Insightfulness( the capacity for insight into children’s thoughts and feelings) and the approach taken... toward infants. Participants were parents with children aged 0-6 years (10 fathers and 10 mothers) and college students with no child-care experience (10 men and 10 women). Participants viewed four video clips of interactions between non-participant parents and children. Subsequently, participants were interviewed regarding infants’ thoughts, as well as their feelings and approach toward infants. Participants’ Insightfulness was estimated using a revised measure, based on one originally developed by Oppenheim & Koren-Karie (2002). A two-factor ANOVA showed a significant difference for feelings of infants according to the presence of child-care experience. The results also indicated that parents felt anger toward infants more than college students did, and thus, we considered the necessity of supporting parents’ ability to adjust their emotions.
