Abstract This paper aims to review the method of alumni survey and analyses the survey data on graduates from the school of education in Kyushu University. In order to investigate the approaches for quality im...provement of education, the learning outcomes and pedagogical approaches were examined. Among various innovative approaches, it is focused on the work integrated learning (WIL) which connects major specialisation with future career domain. This paper examined following domains; curriculum provisions, leaners’ engagements, WIL experiences, learning outcomes and competencies, the contexts (time, place, and occasion) of competency formation, and occupational relevance of higher education. As findings, first, graduates show lower assessment of WIL provisions of this school and subsequently few graduates engaged enthusiastically in WIL compared with traditional lecture and seminar style pedagogical provisions. Second, WIL experiences does not provide the opportunities on specialized knowledge and understanding of major specialization, but do provide the opportunity for skills and applied competency formation. Third, graduates in educational science course trends to indicate a higher evaluation about an occupational relevance of their higher learning including WIL than graduates in educational psychology course. As the conclusion, it reveals that graduates get identical competencies related to generic skills through WIL. It is necessary for further survey to examine the occupational relevance in relation with their initial career paths.show more
