Abstract I survey the long-term change and development of forest, forest rights and forestry from the period of Choseon dynasty to 1987 when 'the 2th Reforestation Campaign" successfully finished. I try to use... quantitative materials as many as possible. But, as other premodern societies, we can not find them before Japanese colonialization in 1910, either. Only after colonialization, we find statistic data, because Governmental-General started the restoration campaign as a national project. So I explain the deforestation and the change and development of forest rights in Choseon period using only qualitative materials, from the perspective of 'property rights regimes for common-pool resources'. At the same time Government- General reorganized Choseon's unique forest rights systems legally and administratively into modern systems, too. In this period, various surveys results of forest and forestry started to be published, so I can use them ex. To describe the reforestation or structure of forest rights in the period. Finally, I survey the rapid deforestation right aft the liberation and reforestation after 1960s using the similar kind of materials.show more
