Abstract We investigated students’ course selection trends in the basic science subjects on KIKAN education for the development of a new educational concept, “liberal science education”. In this report, the co...urse selection trends by the students from the schools of Letters, Education, Economics, and Science of Kyushu University were compared to those in their high school curriculum. It became obvious that the earth science course, “Introduction to the earth and planetary science” was popular among all the students, despite only a few of them choosing earth science during high school. As a new challenge to develop new interdisciplinary subjects from the existing subjects, we introduced the Big History Project, which covers the Big Bang theory to present-day events. In the final part of this report, we explained the recent progress and outlook for development of “liberal science education” in Kyushu University.show more
