Abstract |
The formation of heat-driven two-dimensional convective cellular flow in a horizontally long layer of fluid has been investigated experimentally at 1.40×104≦Ra≦1.2×106 and 4.80×103≦Pr≦6.00×103, Ra and... Pr being respectively the Rayleigh and Prandtl numbers. The numerically obtained value for the ratio of the horizontal mean wavelength of cell paires to fluid depth at large Ra agrees approximately with its experimental value of 1.7, although the range of Pr is much smaller than the above mentioned experimental range.show more
