| Abstract |
「ポラーノの広場」は宮沢賢治晩年の四大長編童話の一つである。この作品はまず大正13(1924)年ごろ先駆形が執筆され、長い年月の間に改稿・削除・加筆といったプロセスを経て、昭和6、7(1931、2)年ごろ最終稿に辿り着いたのである。少年達が昔話に出てくるような広場を探し、それが失敗した後、自力で新しい理想の広場を創りあげる、という筋立てである。周知の如く、これは賢治自身の現実の生活に近い構想であり...、つまり、彼の羅須地人協会時代の活動(大正末年から昭和初頭にかけての2、3年間)が下敷きにされているのである。作品の最終部分に少年達が新しい理想の広場建設に励み、成功したことが描かれているが、その新しい理想の広場については具体的に善かれていないため、作品内部のみによってその様相を捉えるのは不十分で、作品外部にも目を向ける必要があると思う。本稿では、作品の背後にある時代(主に大正時代)というものを視野に入れ、大正期におけるもう一人の作家武者小路実篤の「新しき村」に関する理想、実践と、賢治の同時期のそれとを対照させつつ、「ポラーノの広場」に現れた新しい理想の広場の有り様を探っていきたいと思う。
Miyazawa Kenji's Polano Square, written about his experience during the Rasu Chijin Association period, describes a group of youths who desire an ideal new square. Kenji's idea during the period was quite similar to that of Mushanokoji Saneatsu, the author who established the New Village at the same period. In this paper, I attempt to explore the new world implied within the idea of the new square described in Polano Square by discussing the differences between the ideas of the two writers.show more
