| Abstract |
A new viewpoint on the information storage and retrieval systems mainly for the use of researchers is discussed. A mathematical formulation of the terms in the information retrieval systems is present...ed. Then a practical information storage and retrieval system, So called MIR-RF system, is constructed in accordance with the new viewpoint and the formulation. As raw materials for MIR-RF system, 1) the researcher files are prepared by individual researchers or groups of researchers, and 2) the lists of documents are picked up by researcher themselves from their interest. 3) From the titles of the listed documents, the key words or key phrases are extracted by a newly designed automatic indexing system REKWEST. 4) The retrievals are carried out by the multistage uses of the several kinds of associations between the two files prepared in 1) and 2). In this system, the researchers own know ledges, views and insights about their fields of studies can be reflected with minimal efforts. As a byproduct, some materials for constructing the general thesaurus are accumulated.show more
