| 概要 | 「68州に区分された日本帝国」 E ケンペル、J.ショィヒッェル 1729年 ハーグ オランダ東インド会社医師として1690～92年にわが国に滞在し、オランダ商館長の江戸参府旅行にも随行したドイツ人ケンペル（1651～1716）は、帰国後持ち帰った日本についての資料をもとに著述をはじめたが、刊行に至らないまま没した。その遺稿を買い取ったイギリスのスローン卿が、スイス人ショィヒツェル（生没年不詳）にド...イツ語からの英訳を委託、1727年「The.History. Of.Japan」（「日本誌」）と題してロンドンで出版、また1729年にはオランダ語訳がハーグで刊行された。 その際、ケンペルの資料によってショイヒツェルが作成したのがこの図であるが、これは延宝6年（1678）刊行の「新撰大日本図鑑」や浮世絵師石川流宣の「本朝図鑑綱目」（貞享4年、1687）によっている。 また、左上の図のうち右は、本図では松前が島になっているところを渡島半島の形に補訂したものであり、左にはカムチャッカ、サハリン、千島などが一体となったアジア北東部の半島が示されている。このほか、日本の羅針盤、わが国から中国各地やオランダなどへの距離表、国・郡・社寺などの数、数種類の数珠、大黒、恵比寿などが描かれている。両図とも内容的にはほぼ同じであるが、図中の地名にはやや精粗の違いがみられる。なお、九州には（KIVSIV）の文字があり、北部九州には、（Fakatta）（Kokura）（Jtzka）（Nagatto）（Kujasaki）などがみえる。 小野菊雄2002（第43回中央図書館貴重文物展観図録） “The Japanese Empire Divided into 68 States,” E. Kaempfer, J. Scheuchzer 1727 London Japan Kaempfer (1651–1716), a German who stayed in Japan during 1690–92 as a doctor with the Dutch East India Company and also traveled to Edo as part of the Dutch Company head’s tribute mission, began writing about Japan based on the materials he brought back home once he returned. However, he died before he could publish it. Sir Sloane of England bought these manuscripts and commissioned the Swiss man Scheuchzer (birth and death dates unknown) to translate it to English and published it in 1727 in London as “The History of Japan.” In 1729, a Dutch translation was published in Hague. At that time, the map was drawn up by Scheuchzer based on Kaempfer’s materials, but this is according to the “Newly Compiled Map of Japan” published in 1678 and the “Map of Great Japan” (1687) by Ukiyoe artist Ishikawa Ryusen. Moreover, the right side in the upper left map, the place where Masaki becomes an island, is revised in the form of the Oshima Peninsula, and on the left is the northeast Asian peninsula, where Kamchatka, Sakhalin, Kuril Islands, etc. have been consolidated as one. In addition, there is a compass of Japan, a distance table from Japan to various parts of China and the Netherlands, and the number of countries, counties, shrines, temples, etc., and several kinds of rosaries, Daikoku, Ebisu, etc. have been drawn. Both maps are roughly the same in terms of content, except for a slight difference in the place names. In addition, the characters KIVSIV are there in Kyushu, and in northern Kyushu, one can see Fakatta, Kokura, Jtzka, Nagatto, Kujazaki, etc.続きを見る |
