概要 The purpose of this study is to explore the Viking Clap, which is a type of accelerating clap which has occurred all over the world in recent years, and is also a unique way of applauding. Clapping an...d rhythmic applause are behaviors that can be seen in any cultural circle. However, in many cases, the two are considered to be different styles, and their meanings are somewhat different. Clapping is used to show praise, support, share joy, etc., while rhythmic applause is used to mark the rhythm in alignment with music, dance, sports, etc. Moreover, if rhythmic applause accelerates, it has a different meaning from regular rhythmic applause. This draft takes the Viking Clap as its theme, and discusses the accelerating clap. The Viking Clap was originally an activity done by cheering crowds in football matches, and became well known as a result of the cheering of Icelandic crowds. The clappers raise their hands above their heads and open them, and when a drum or other instrument makes a sound, the clappers take this as their cue to clap their hands together. They slowly speed up their pace while proceeding, and finally transition at the end to scattered applause. In recent years, the Viking Clap has been seen in many parts of the world, some of them exceeding 10,000 people. Besides football, it is often done in other sports, concerts, large celebrations and gatherings. Viking Claps can also be seen in support of Japanese football teams. This draft organized and examined data on Viking claps found in 70 videos from June 2016 to the end of February 2022.続きを見る
