We have carried out field measurement on water quality at Isahaya Bay in the inner area of Ariake Bay in the summer of 2002 in order to investigate the occurrence of hypoxic water. It was observed that hypoxic water appeared two times in Isahaya Bay in early July and August. Formation of the hypoxic water is closely related with density stratification based on temperature and salinity distribution. That is, it was found that the hypoxic water disappeared when densitocline was broken by strong wind blowing on the sea water.
