Bunshi Gensho （1555 - 1620） was a Zen priest who was a member of the Satsunangaku school created by Keian Genju, and was active as a diplomat in the Shimazu Clan. He was known as the individual who de...vised the bunshi ten（Bunshi mark）which provides readers with an easier way to read Chinese characters, effectively reinventing the kunten system. He is also the author of “Teppōki” that recorded the introduction of firearms into Japan. A majority of Bunshi’s diplomatic documents were addressed to Ryūkyū Kingdom. Many of those prose and poetry are written during the invasion of Ryukyu by the Shimazu Clan（1609）. Bunshi’ s poetry anthologies included diplomatic documents written for the Ryūkyū Kingdom that revealed his relationship with a number of Zen priests in Ryūkyū. This paper aims to consider the various layers of Bunshi’ s emotions and personal opinions on the invasion reflected through his prose and poetry.続きを見る
