The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of the organized camp experience on children's stress response, and to examine the relationship between cognitive appraisal of the organized cam...p and resultant changes in stress exhibited following the camp. Seventy-three elementary school children participated in an organized camp for three days. Cognitive appraisal was measured using an adjective Items consisting of "pleasant-painful". Subjects were assigned to either favorable or unfavorable groups based on their cognitive appraisal (positive or negative) of the camp experience. The Stress Response Scale for Children (SRS-C), composing of "physical states," "depressive-anxious feeling," "irritated- angry feeling" and "helplessness," was administered before and after the organized camp. The results of the student paired t-tests Indicated that both of "physical states" and "irritated-angry feeling" subscale scores decreased significantly after the organized camp experience. In addition, results of 2×2 (Group× Time) ANOVAS performed on each of the SRS-C subscales showed that there were significant time main effects for "physical states" "irritated-angry feeling" and "helplessness," and a significant group by time interaction for the "irritated-angry feeling" subscale These findings suggest that the organized camp experience can produce stress reduction in children. Benefits, however, are influenced by cognitive appraisal of the camp experience. Benefit of the organized camp on stress reduction and implications for future research are discussed. 後のストレス反応の変化、およびその変化への組織キャンプに対する認知的評価(苦しい−楽しい)の影響を 分析し、検討を行った。主な結果は、つぎのとおりである。1.組織キャンプの体験により、児童のストレス反応 の「身体的反応」「不機嫌・怒り感情」に顕著な低下が認められた。しかし、「抑うつ・不安感情」「無 気力」においては有意な変化はみられなかった。これらの結果から、組織キャンプの体験が、いくつかのストレス反応の低減に有効であることが示唆された。 2.認知的評価(苦しい−楽しい)に関係なく、組織キャンプの体験によりストレス反応の「身体的反応」 「無気力」は有意に低下した。しかし「不機嫌・怒り感情」は、非好意群(組織キャンプの体験を苦しいものであるという認知的評価をもつ者)の変化が 顕著であった。このことから、組織キャンプ体験にともなうストレス反応への効果は、認知的評価が影響を及ぼしている可能性があることが示唆された。続きを見る
