概要 |
During the period between October 1 and 20, 1998, we made an investigaiton on Paragonimus and paragonimiasis in Nepal. A total of 346 freshwater crabs belonging to two species were collected at hill... areas; Kotyang and Judhigaon, located at the north-east of Kathmandu. The crabs were classified and grouped by species, sex and their carapace width, and minced with scissors, and put in artificial digestion fluid for several hours. After washing and filtration, the sediments were examined for metacercariae under dissecting microscope. Three hundred and one freshwater crabs collected from Kotyang harbored 5 Paragonimus metacercariae. No metacercariae were found in freshwater crabs collected from Judhigaon. Five metacercariae recovered were transferred to Kyushu University, Japan for detailed observation and experimental infection. One parasite-free male dog, weighing 12.7 kg, was used for the experimental infection. The dog was infected by feeding a capsule in which 5 metacercariae had been packed. Paragonimus eggs were positive, by stool examination with formalin ether sedimentation technique, 105 days postinfection. The dog was autopsied 106 days postinfection. Three mature adults were removed from the cysts in the lungs. The flukes recovered were provisionally identified as Paragonimus skrjabini. The fact that the freshwater crabs were proved to be naturally infected with Paragonimus metacercariae is the first discovery in Nepal. More detailed studies should be needed in the near future.続きを見る
