概要 The Saku Formation of the Cretaceous Yezo geosyncline is redefined, with descriptions of the stratigraphic sequence and sedimentary facies in the type Saku area, northwest Hokkaido. On the evidence of... the contained fossils the Saku Formation in the type area is Middle to Upper Turonian in age. In comparison with the type Saku Formation, Cenomanian and Turonian sequences in other areas (as indicated in Fig. 1) are described in datail, with illustrations of stratigraphic columns and route maps along selected routes. The Saku Formation and its equivalents in Hokkaido are fairly fossiliferous deposits of claystone to fine-sandy siltstone in their main part but often intercalated with sandstones of flysch facies. Pebbly mudstone or peculiar conglomerate is met with in some places, which shows features of a fluxoturbidite. The Saku Formation and its equivalents are interpreted to represent a labile shelf or miogeosynclinal sediments under the sea of shallow to moderate depth, mixed with some influx of turbidites and other coarse elastic deposits. The turbidites in this case are not necessarily of deep trough deposits. Flysch sequences with poor mega-fossils are more prominent in Cenomanian and Turonian sequences of the belt on the east side of the Kamuikotan-serpentine line, as well as in Aptian-Albian sequences. The sedimentary facies of the Saku Formation is compared with some other late Mesozoic flysch sequences in the circum-Pacific area to make clear its particular characters.続きを見る
