概要 The Paleogene coal-fields in North Kyushu are distributed in the Kokura, Chikuho, iMunakata, Kasuya and Fukuoka areas, and the sediments are divided into three groups such as the Nogata, Otuji and Ash...iya in ascending order. This paper reviews the geohistory of those coal-fields on the basis of some data of the former studies and new lines of evidence which have been obtained since 1960's, and is composed of three chapters; (1) general remarks on the geology of sedimentary basin, (2) stratigraphy, sedimentation, and geologic structures of each coal-field, (3) occurrence and geological age of molluscan fossils. The sedimentary basin in these coal-fields linked up with the open sea in the direction of south during the deposition from the Nogata Group to the lower part of the Otuji Group, and these deposits are in general thin in the northern area of the basin and are thickened to the south. The marine Ashiya Group rests unconformably upon the Otuji Group, and the sediments in this stage were carried into the basin from the north.\ The Nogata and Otuji Groups associated with coal deposits are rich in plant fossils and brackish-water origin molluscs, but are very rare in the marine fossils. The Ashiya Group yields large quantities of foraminifers, marine molluscan and some vertebrate fossils. Tertiary sediments in these coal-fields suggest the Upper Eocene to Lower Miocene in age on the basis of molluscan data.続きを見る
