The activity of PPi-dependent phosphofructokinase and ATP-dependent phosphofructokinase in different parts and change of enzymatic activities during development of tuberous root were investigated to understand roles of PPi-dependent phosphofructokinase in sweet potato(Ipomoea botatas Lam.). The activity of ATP-dependent phosphofructokinase and PPi-dependent phosphofructokinase was very low compared with main enzymes related to carbohydrate metabolism. The activity of ATP-dependent phosphofructokinase was higher in root than other parts. the activity of PPi-dependent phosphofructokinase was much higher in young leaf and tuberous root, whereas the activity of PPi-dependent phosphofructokinase showed maximum in root with diameter of 16 mm.
