We visited the Institute of Soil and Water Conservation, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Ministry of Water Resources which is located at Yangling, Shaanxi Province, People's Republic of China, to sign the Agreement of Academic Cooperation with the Institute of Soil and Water Conservation, as the representatives from the Faculty of Agriculture, Kyushu University, during August 8 to 11, 2003. After signing of the Agreement on August 9 at the Institute, we surveyed its regional experimental stations in Guyuan Countly, Ningxia Huizu Autonomous Region, situated in the center of Loess Plateau. Through field survey in Guyuan County and discussion with menvers of the Institute, we understand the importance of the ecological aspect in the recovery of devastated land in Loess Plateau. The promotion of the cooperative research work with the Institute of Soil and Water Consernation is harmony with the Asian-oriented research activity in the policy of Kyushu University, and is useful for the encouragement of fieldbased environmental in the Faculty of Agriculture.
