There are two ways of observing chromosomes of mulberry trees; one is called "Paraffin Method", and the other, "Smear Method" that have been applied in general, has a deficit of taking rather long time in making slide while "Smear method" needs some degree of skill, though the treatments are simple in both cases on observing slide, the former, as its chromosomes are stained well, is simple in treatment, but this method is often retarded the study wheh the cells and chromosomes are comparatively small. In "Smear Method" these cells are crushed considerably and the chromosomes spread on a plain surface, resulting in easier observation: thatis reason why I recommend this method. From these two methods, the author has determined for the first time that the chromosome numbers of Kataneo, Yamabeguwa and Kantormisho are all 2n=28.
