概要 The number of Yellow sand days reported by the Japan Meteorological Agency increased significantly from 2000 to 2002, but decreased in 2003. The purposes of this study are to analyze interannual varia...tions of Asian dust emission and transport and to clarify factors controlling dust variations. In this study, a dust transport model coupled with the regional-meteorological model is used for springtime simulations from 1993 to 2003. The present model simulates interannual variations well in comparison with the TOMS aerosol index and observed number of Yellow sand days in Gobi, Korea and Japan. We also find that the inter-annual trend of dusty days in Japan is slightly different from that of Korea. And there is a clear difference in the simulated interannual variation of the horizontal mass flux and path of dust transport within the atmospheric boundary layer between dust frequent and non-frequent years. The analysis of meteorological field shows that the frequency of strong wind over the Gobi region has strong correlations with the number of Yellow sand events and model dust emission strength. The anomaly of the geopotential height of ECMWF meteorological data also indicates the frequency of strong wind over the dust source region and the variation of the dust transport path. We conclude that the dust interannual variation in Japan is controlled mainly by the frequency of strong wind over the source region and the dust transport path.続きを見る
