In the Japanese language, the passive is one of the voices and constitutes a grammatical category. On the other hand, there is no grammatical category of voice in Chinese, where the passive is express...ed only by means of functional words and word order. This difference causes a great difficulty to Chinese learners of Japanese. It is an important subject in the Japanese teaching and translation to carry out research on the proper use of the Japanese passive voice. Therefore, this paper, through empirical study, makes a contrastive analysis of Japanese sentences which include the direct passive with no subject, and their corresponding Chinese translations taken from a Chinese-Japanese corpus. It attempts to clarify the differences in the use of passive in Japanese and Chinese, as well as to explore the degree of correspondence between Japanese and Chinese uses. This paper emphasizes the utility of the research and hopes that it will be applied to the Japanese-Chinese translation and the Japanese language teaching.続きを見る
