Along with the development of human society, the phenomena of language contact have been caused by international trade, culture communication, immigration, or wars. A type of language contact, that on...e language could be input into the others, is so-called as recipient language, including original grammar, tone, meaning and so on. The word preference in the receipt language is easy to access. The source language may contain closed syllables and consonant clusters, but the receipt language may not. This induces a situation termed vowel epenthesis. In English, a great number of closed syllables exist, while Chinese rich in open syllables. In this study, to understand the vowel epenthesis and default in Chinese, we investigated two languages, sound environments, and the basic pattern of vowel epenthesis by taking English as the source language and Chinese as the receipt language.続きを見る
