1. The form of the distribution of the wind velocity inside the forest, assumed by the wind blowing against it, has a great deal to do with the caring for the forest stand or trees. 2. The observation... was made on the "kuromatsu" wind break standing on the sand near the coast without a lower layer of trees, and especially on the horizontal distribution of the wind velocity in the vicinity of the forest margin. 3. The wind break used for the observation is a part of experimental forest in the suburbs of Fukuoka city. The station of observation was taken on line of observation set at right angles to the waterside line, Fig. I. The observations were made on the horizontal distribution of wind velocity and intensity of gustiness and on the virtical distribution of wind velocity. The position of the station for the observation is indicated in Fig. II, Tab. 1 and 2. 4. The results of the observation are seen in Tab. 3,4 and 5, and Fig. III, IV, V, VI and VII. 5. The following can be observed in these results; (a) The measured value of wind velocity inside the wind break is quite unstable, with greater instability nearer the forest margin. (b) In side the forest, the stronger wind is comperatively less weakened. (c) The places unstable in intensity of gustiness is found in near the forest margin. (d) The vertical distribution does not assume as clean a form as it does in the observation by Fons, W. L... (e) These observations seem to be limited only to the case of the above mentioned conditions of the wind breaks and the branches covering the trees at the forest margin.続きを見る
