概要 How do language students learn vocabulary? It is well known that students use a number of vocabulary learning strategies when studying a second language. Students of the Japanese language also use suc...h strategies and this use has become the topic of several studies. The aim of this paper is to review the studies of vocabulary learning strategies used by learners of Japanese and study the issue. We discuss taxonomy of second language vocabulary learning strategies in the second section, the methods of data collection for strategies in the third section, then we review previous studies of vocabulary learning strategies of Japanese language in the fourth section, and finally in the fifth section we conclude our discussion. Previous studies focused on the way students use learning strategies and they revealed relation between the use of vocabulary learning strategies and learners' vocabulary knowledge, proficiency levels and their, first language. Several studies reveal that (1) good learners use a variety of vocabulary learning strategies and do it more often than bad learners;, (2) poor learners tend to use mechanical and simple strategies. In addition, Yu (2010) points out that learners tend not to change the way they use strategies, even at an advanced level, and suggests that training strategy use is meaningful for poor learners. We point out two problems of previous studies: (1) most studies have focused on students living in Japan, and research concerning students who learn Japanese in their home countries is not sufficient, (2) no studies have been conducted on training or teaching–vocabulary learning strategies.続きを見る
