概要 In the Bakumatsu-Meiji Period, a number of two-character Kanji words like "愛憎-憎愛, 親近-近親, 移転-転移", which have the same or similar meaning, while those with reverse order were used simultaneously. As lan...guage transfers with the time, only one of the pair of words has still been used or both of them survived. Furthermore, among the survived pairs, some have changed into words with a different meanings, while others have still been synonyms or similar in meaning. For the simultaneous use of two-character Kanji words in Reverse Order, Arakawa(1997) attributes it to the "Word Creation Movement" for translating Western books into Japanese in the Bakumatsu-Meiji Period; for the simultaneous use of paired two-character Kanji words in the field of law, Watanabe(1930) attributes it to deviations of nationality, accent adjustments, and rhetorical skills, when colliding with foreign languages. For paired two-character Kanji words with only one of the pair remaining, Takada(2004) states that it is the result of "the survival of the fittest in paired words" and "the tendency of unifying paired words". All the above mentioned theories have some redeeming qualities, however, they can only be applied to part of these Kanji words. In addition, they are all analyzed only in synchronic perspective. In this paper, 150 pairs of two-character Kanji words in both proper and reverse orders are selected by literature investigation and analyzed in both synchronic categorized and diachronic perspectives. All these Kanji words are categorized and studied by word composition, survival situation and semantic variation. Consequently, the regularity and tendency in the survival and semantic variation of paired two-character Kanji words and the relations between Japanese and Chinese will be generalized.続きを見る
