概要 The purpose of this paper to describe and analyze the non-formal mode of education as a unique practice of Education Development in Chiang Mai Northern Thailand. We can see some practicc of the non-fo...rmal educational services for the hill tribes people and children who are deprived of chances of schooling due to their poverty. The temple schools which are run by the Thai Sangha (Natinal Monk Organization) with support from the Thai Religion Office are not only producing the next generation of monks but also giving a chance to get secondary education for free to poor children. The Srisoda Temple School especially plays an important role by providing complementary education to hill tribe children around the northern provinces. The Wat Papao is a traditional Shan temple in which an adult education project provides the Shan youth in Chiang Mai with literacy skills, which will improve their job opportunities in Thailand. Also Wat Papao makes a contribution in keeping Shan ethnic identity by holding a famous festival "Poy Son glong" (A novices ordination festival) every yeare. There is another non-formal project in a public primary school, Puttisophon Primary School, at night time. Most of the students are come from hill tribes who are deprived of an education. Outside of formal schooling, these kinds of non-fromal modes of education in Chiang Mai are making good use of local resources that correspond to the local needs of education. These practices suggest a good example of Alternative Education Developing in developing countries.続きを見る
