The distribution pattern of a brackish water goby, Eutaeniichthys gilli, in the Kyushu Islands, was investigated via field surveys and literature searches, in order to clarify the present status of the species. E. gilli commonly occurred in tidal flats around estuaries, coexisting with six goby species such as Gymnogobius uchidai, Mugilogobius abei and Pseudogobius masago. Although numerous, new distribution sites were found, data from several sites indicated the possible extinction of the species.
