Around 10 years passed since ISO14001, the international standard of environmental management system (EMS), went into effect. In Japan, 18,466 organizations have acquired the ISO14001 certification at the time of June 6, 2006. Components of ISO14001 introduced into private manufacturing industries, national university and local government were examined and compared with one another. The purpose of the introduction of ISO14001 was the contribution to improvement of environment and common to the private manufacturing industries, national university and local government, although the motivation for its introduction and respective components were varied with them. In the performance of the contribution to improvement of environment, the national university concentrates on promotion of training of students, research on environmental topics and social contribution, and the local government plans to reduce environmental load in the whole society through implementation of administrative policies.
