Remarkable substituent effect on the reaction rates of benzene with 8-bromomethyl [2.2]metacyclophane derivatives ([2.2]MCPs) in the presence of titanium tetrachloride as a catalyst is investigated by... ab initio molecular orbital calculations on the isodesmic reactions of cationic intermediates (2, 3, 5, 6 and 8) in terms of intramolecular cation/π interaction in [2.2]MCP system. Unsubstituted cation 2 is more stable than ring-closed cation 6, while ring-closed methoxy-substituted cation 5a is more stable than ring-opened cation 3a and methyl-substituted cation 8 has four-membered spiro structure.続きを見る
