概要 It is necessary for mental health not only to assess negative aspects, but also to assess positive aspects. The purpose of this study was to provide a scale to assess different aspects of mental heal...th, and then to test the reliability and validity of this scale. In Study 1, data was collected and factor-analyzed from 1,018 elementary children in grades four through six which resulted in a scale, the Mental Health Pattern for Children (MHPC) that consists of thirty items. This scale is composed of six subscales that rate a childs mental health, so that three positive aspects (life satisfaction, goal/challenge, and self-confidence) and three negative aspects (anger, fatigue, and withdrawn) are assessed. Score on the MHPC showed high internal consistency and a high test-retest reliability. In Study 2, in which 168 elementary school children participated, correlations between the scores of MHPC and those of three other scale assessing achievement motive (Achievement motive scale, Mori & Horino: 1997) and stress response (Stress Response Scale, Shimada et al.:1994) and school life satisfaction (School life satisfaction scale for children, Kawamura & Tagami:1997) were examined. The results showed the MHPC had high validity in each subscale. These findings suggested that MHPC was quite valid as an assessment tool for mental health. Finally, a possible direction for future studies with use of the MHPC was discussed.続きを見る
