Analysis of the dnaB gene, homologue of the Escherichia replicative DNA helicase DnaB, from various Mycobacterium intracellulare complex strains revealed their dnaB genes were heterogeneity. We found that intein was included in-frame in the dnaB locus of M. intracellulare and that the intein is highly similar to M. avium interin. Phylogenetic study syowed intein sequences were remote from their own host, dnaB sequences and suggested that the horizonal transfer had occured among Mocobacterium avium-intracellulare complex strains.
