This study clarifies the socio-economic factors that influence the mental depression of foreign workers in Taiwan through quantitative analysis in order to extend a better support system. The quantita...tive research was conducted with the cooperation of Migrant Workers' Concern Desk, Commission for Social Development, Chinese Catholic Bishops' Conference, to a total of 17 sites based on the churches in Taichung and Taipei area. The number of the respondents in this study is 2,483, out of whom 2,302(97.7%) were Filipinos 1,704 (70.3%) were women, the average age was 29.4 years old (SD6.3), and average length of stay in Taiwan was 21.3 months (SD23.9). For the reason they come to Taiwan, 754(48.0%) said that they come to Taiwan to experience life. By the type of job in Taiwan, Factory Workers of 1,695(70.0%) were top in number, followed by Care Takers of 358(14.8%) and Domestic Helpers of 240(9.9%). The logistic regression analysis indicated that Work strain (β=.481, p<0.001) had the largest contribution to the CES-D scores, followed by the reason to come to Taiwan (β=.244, p<0.01). This study suggested that in order to prevent the Foreign Workers suffering from depression, it is inevitable to establish the multi-understanding between Taiwanese employers and foreign employees for further raising the treatment of the workers in their work place.続きを見る
