This is the first part of the revision of Japanese Curculionidae, treating thesubfamily Hylobiinae, which contain 19 genera and 43 species. Hylobius is defined for the Piceus-group (=HygomoZy~). Hylob...itelus is adopted for the abietis-group as an indipendent genus. Pagiophloeus is treated also as a valid genus after the definition by Marshall (1948) and Aslam (1963).
