概要 From the age of a student to that of an independent writer Bertrand Russell profited by Alfred North Whitehead's guidance. In 1910, together they set about constructing the new system of logic which i...s embodied in their Principia Mathematica. But yet they disagreed in the educational theory as well as philosophy. With regard to technical education, Whitenead has referred to it under the title "Technical Education and Its Relation to Science and Literature" in his book The Organization of Thought (Williams and Norgate, Lonndonn, 1917), while Russell was primarily interested in liberal education. In the paper, Whitehead argues that the antithesis between a technical education and a liberal education is fallacious. A technical or technological education, for Whitehead, must be conceived in a liberal spirit as a real intellectual enlightenment. There can be no adequate technical education which is not liberal, nor liberal education which is not technical : no education which does not impart either technique or intellectual vision. Speaking of the ideal of technical education, whitehead concludes that technical education is an ingredient in the complete development of ideal human beings. This is true, I think.続きを見る
