小野菊雄2002(第43回中央図書館貴重文物展観図録) “The Russian Empire and the Great Tatar” F. Gussefeld (1744–1807) 1786 Nuremberg In Gussefeld’s map, Japan is in the Kaempfer-shape, but a portion of the Oshima Peninsula, only the Masaki island appears. However, the Kuril islands are relatively well lined up with the Kamchatka Peninsula, and the Aleutian islands are shown to the east of Kamchatka. In addition to the angular bracket-shaped Sakhalin at the mouth of the Amur River, the southeastern coast of Sakhalin is depicted along the southern continental coast, which indicates that even at the end of the 18th century, Japan’s northern region was not yet accurately recognized.show more |
