小野菊雄2002(第43回中央図書館貴重文物展観図録) “Great Tartaria, Great Mongolian Empire, Japan and China New Map” F.de Wit (1616–98) 1660. This map by de Wit of Amsterdam is considerably similar to Visscher’s “New Map of Asia.” However, Visscher uses the Texeira-shape for Japan, whereas Japan in this map has a different shape. That is, the north coast of Tohoku with a slightly protruding center and the Boso Peninsula being long in the south are from the map by the French missionary Ph. Brier (1601–68), which is based on the map in the book of the Portuguese missionary A. Cardim, (1595–1649 or 1659). The source of the Cardim map is sought for the Japanese folding maps from the Momoyama period.show more |
