The map of G. Delisle of Paris, France (1675–1726) and Ph. Buache (1700–73) was revised and published by Dezauche. To the north of Japan in the shape given by Kaempfer is the “IESO” island, where the coastline of the Toshima Peninsula is connected from the east bank of Matsumoto Island, Sakhalin, and Nemuro Peninsula, and the shape of Sakhalin resembles an angular bracket. Furthermore, to the east of “IESO” Island, there is a “country’s island” and the “Company Land” represented as an island. Kamchatka to the Kuril Islands is accurate. On the other hand, “Gama’s Land,” rumors of which had stopped since the end of the 16th century, is also depicted.show more |
