Abstract |
Policy makers and planners have endeavoured to make their cities more environment-friendly in both developed and developing countries. Decentralisation of urban factions seems to be one of urban polic...ies to create eco-friendly urban forms. The present study addressed influences of such decentralisation policies to urban form, and of such changes on reduction in environmental loads like greenhouse gas emission. To attain these purposes, this study examined changes in the number of workers and commuters at municipal level in Stockholm county, Sweden, and correlation between the number of commuters and carbon dioxide emission. As results, it is shown that the decentralisation policy in Stockholm County brought relocations of workers and changes in commuting patterns, and in turn, Such changes caused reduction in carbon dioxide emission. It is, therefore, Concluded that decentralisation policy could bring more eco-friendly urban form.show more
