Abstract There are a large number of researches on the uses of goal-oriented and non-goal-oriented verbs (corresponding to come and go in English) of world languages (e.g. Fillmore (1972), Kuno (1978), and Ohe... (1975)). However, little is known about the uses of the goal-oriented and non-goal-oriented verbs in Modern Uyghur. I have researched the uses of kal- (goal-oriented verb) and bar- (non-goal-oriented verb) in Modern Uyghur. In this article, I will show the criteria for selection between these motion verbs in Modern Uyghur. Furthermore, I will contrast the criteria with those of other languages in accordance with "easiness of viewpoint shift."show more
