Abstract We studied the Seebeck effect on the convection of a solution during crystal growth by two-dimensional and time-dependent calculation of heat and mass transfer. We clarified that an electric current, ...which flows in the electrically conducting wall of a crucible, enhanced the radial flow in the solution. The electric current is mainly based on the Seebeck effect, which originates from the temperature gradient in the solution and the crucible. Exact values of the Seebeck coefficient for the solution and the crucible are required to obtain more quantitative results.show more
