Dohsa-hou is a psychological support method used in various fields. This study examined the mood and self-awareness changes caused by motion experience and their associations with motion sessions for individuals attending university lectures. Data was gathered before and after the session, and self-acceptance, which is a developmental issue for middle-aged and older adults, was considered an effect of dohsa-hou. The results indicated a decrease in participants’ overall negative mood and an increase motivation. Additionally, the activation of emotions shown in conventional motion studies indicates an increase in motivation and a decrease in other negative mood states. Conversely, this study inferred that activation of emotions, utilizing the dohsa-hou method, leads to reduced aggressiveness and subjectivity. Furthermore, the participants’ experiences, impressions, and responses to the survey suggested that the dohsa-hou session was an opportunity to gain face-to-face experience. In conclusion, this study suggests that the dohsa-hou method may transform middle-aged and older adults’ self-awareness.
