概要 |
This study aimed to examine the preferences for online or face-to-face counseling and its related psychological characteristics. Questionnaires were completed by 343 students assessing the preferences... for face-to-face, video conferencing and text messaging, attitudes toward seeking professional psychological help, help-seeking styles, and self-stigma of seeking help. Of all participants, 77.3% preferred face-to-face, 19.2% preferred text messaging, and 3.5% preferred video conferencing. The ANOVA showed that the group who preferred text messaging had more negative attitudes toward seeking professional help and higher self-stigma of seeking help than the group who preferred face-to-face. Moreover, the results of a qualitative analysis showed that participants estimated text messaging as an easy to use and less burdensome means. This suggests that the majority did not prefer counseling using text messaging; however, it is suitable for people who have negative attitudes or self-stigma toward seeking professional psychological help. In conclusion, text messaging may be the “gateway” of psychological help for those who have been unable to access it thus far.続きを見る
